If you are going to register as autonomo, or you are thinking about changing your bank, the first thing to check is whether the bank you choose is among the financial entities cooperating with Social Security and Hacienda.
One prerequisite to register as self-employed is to have a Spanish bank account in your own name and NIF number to which Social Security can debit your monthly contribution.
You will also need a bank account to pay tax, especially if you request postponements.
However, not all financial entities based in Spain are included in the list of cooperating banks.
Before opening or changing an account, make sure the bank you select is included in the list.
Check the account type too
Unfortunately, being on the list is not the only thing that can go wrong.
Some banks may not allow Social Security direct debits from particular accounts opened for non-business purposes, such as savings accounts.
Make sure you open an account that can receive and make the required business, tax and Social Security payments, ideally with online banking facilities.
